Lacee Sanchez walked into a weight room looking to improve her softball game and walked out a world-record weight lifting champion.
Sanchez, 15, of Sapulpa, Okla., recently set a world record in her age group and weight class at the World Association of Benchers and Dead Lifters in a meet in Collinsville, Ill.
Sanchez –– a 123-pounder –– benched 132.2 pounds, eclipsing the old lift of 125 pounds set in July 1999.
The Bishop Kelley student lifted more than her own weight to capture the power-lifting record.
Sanchez now gets to attend the World Meet in Anaheim, Calif., later this year.
Sanchez trains with coach Michael Fraley at the Halve & Company Trainers in Tulsa.
She received a world, national and state certificate for her record in Illinois. Sanchez received a sword from the WABDL as recognition of her accomplishment.
The Bishop Kelley freshman is a catcher and outfielder and a 2006 honorable mention utility softball player in the Metro Lakes Conference.
