FAIRFIELD — The Hamilton County varsity boys track team placed sixth out of 18 teams in the Illinois High School Association boys sectional meet held May 16.
Hamilton County senior Will Donelson placed second in the 800-meter run with a personal-best time of 2 minutes, 6 seconds, which qualifies him for the state finals.
Senior teammate Tim Naas placed third in the 400-meter dash with a personal-best time of 51.9. The qualifying time for state was 51.74.
“Looking at other sectionals around the state, his time would have definitely won some of them,” Foxes track coach Roger Lee said.
Naas was leading the race until the last 50 yards, but was not able to hold on to one of the crucial top-two spots.
“Tim has really worked hard this track season,” Lee said. “He gave it his best effort, but just fell short of his goal of making it to state.”
Fox senior Daniel Jamerson placed third in both the discus and shot put competitions. Jamerson had a personal-best distance in the discus with a throw of 131 feet, 6 inches. In the shot put, he threw for a distance of 46-9.
Hamilton County’s 800-meter relay team of Eli Lueke, Jake Scattone, Daven Thomas and Madison Wilkerson placed third with a time of 1:38.2. Lueke, Scattone, Thomas, and Wilkerson competed together again in the 1600-meter relay and ran a season-best time of 3:42.1 to place third.
Lueke placed fourth in the high jump with a height of 5-8.
Hamilton County’s Balee Gay threw a season-best distance of 41-8 in the shot put to place fifth.
Senior teammate Michael Butler ran a season-best time of 11:15 in the 3200-meter run for a fifth-place finish.
Donelson will compete today (May 23) in the preliminaries of the IHSA state track finals.
