McLEANSBORO — The Hamilton County girls high school basketball team will host five other area teams in its season-opening tournament beginning Nov. 25.
On the tournament’s opening day, games begin at 5:30 p.m with Zeigler-Royalton-Christopher going up against Fairfield. Gallatin County takes on Pinckneyville at 7 p.m. and Hamilton County will play Wayne City in the last game of the night at 8:30 p.m.
The tournament continues Nov. 26 when Pinckneyville plays ZRC at 5:30 p.m., Wayne City plays Gallatin County at 7 p.m. and the Lady Foxes again play at 8:30 p.m., this time against Fairfield.
After a break for Thanksgiving, play resumes on Friday, Nov. 29. Hamilton County opens against Gallatin County at 5:30 p.m., followed by Wayne City vs. ZRC at 7 p.m. and Pinckneyville vs. Fairfield at 8:30 p.m.
On Saturday, Nov. 30, there are two rounds of play. The first round begins at 10:30 a.m when the Lady Foxes take on ZRC, followed by Fairfield vs. Gallatin County at noon and Pinckneyville vs. Wayne City at 1:30 p.m.
In the final round of play Nov. 30, Gallatin County will compete against ZRC at 6 p.m., Wayne City will play Fairfield at 7:30 p.m. and Hamilton County will conclude play at 9 p.m. against Pinckneyville.
“I think that is a great tournament to start our season off with,” Lady Fox senior Alicia York said. “This year another team joined the tournament, allowing us to play an extra game. The entire team is ready to begin play. We are working hard and getting better every day.”
Fellow senior Lucendia Adams said she’s excited about this season.
“If we continue to work hard every practice, it should be a very successful season,” Adams said. “The work ethic of my teammates is great. Everyone comes into practice wanting to achieve our best.”
