Spicuzza named to All South squad

By CHARLES PENDELL

Sports correspondent

McLEANSBORO — Hamilton County High School athlete Tanner Spicuzza last week was named to the Southern Illinoisan newspaper Southern Illinois Coaches Association 2008 All South baseball team.

Spicuzza played for the Hamilton County Foxes all four years in high school. This season, he had a .410 batting average while driving in 39 runs with four home runs. He had a slugging percentage of .667, and an on-base percentage of .473.

He was a two-time All Black Diamond Conference selection and a two-time Foxes Most Valuable Player.

Spicuzza was also a member of the Hamilton County Foxes golf team that finished eighth in the state with an 82-11 record this past season. He was named to the SICA All South golf team as well.

He will continue his schooling at Rend Lake College next year on a golf scholarship and will study criminal justice with hopes of some day being a state policeman.

Spicuzza continues to brush up on his golf at the McLeansboro Golf Course and the Rend Lake course. He is playing in numerous golf tournaments throughout the area, including the Mt. Vernon Elks tourney and this weekend's Franklin County Golf Tourney on July 19 and 20.

Spicuzza is the son of Charles and Tonya Spicuzza of Dahlgren and the grandson of Jim and Ann Harrelson of Macedonia.
