McLEANSBORO — Hamilton County golf coach Terry Aud has been named the Class 1A Boys Golf Coach of the Year, as selected by the Southern Illinois Coaches Association.
Aud received his plaque at the SICA meeting March 18 at Du Quoin.
“This is a great honor, and this is an award that I share with my team," Aud said. “Our team was the best Class 1A team in Southern Illinois. I had five golfers — Johnny Barrow, Donald Christensen, Caleb Kirsch, Caleb Miller and Tanner Spicuzza — shoot par or better, and three guys that played in the sixth spot shoot 40-42 in Levi Link and the twins, Matthew and Michael Haeuber.
"My JV team was better than a lot of varsity teams in Southern Illinois. With kids like that, they would make anyone look good.
"My girls team was also very successful, and they advanced to the golf sectionals the last two years. That made them one of the nine best teams in Southern Illinois in Class 1A.
"I’m very proud of my teams and very honored to get this plaque. It was a very enjoyable golf season.”
The Foxes finished eighth in the state this year.
