Writers Spotlight: Click It or Ticket

Once upon a time there was a town

that you could drive through ...

oh so proud,

People came to this town from all around

to see its true beauty shine down.

The beautiful landscape and

buildings are still there,

but you better beware,

Hard times are here, money is tight,

out-of-town cops are here looking to write.

It’s not a warning that you might fear,

When the red and blues shine through

you know it’s bad news ... a ticket is near.

He says, “I saw you from far away, no seat belt near.”

Eyes of eagles these brave men have,

their deadliest weapon ink pen in hand.

I asked this brave man what his job entailed?

It was to protect and to serve.

I liked the answer I heard.

I thought about that as a ticket was wrote,

It just came to me like a bad joke.

Then a grin appeared, it’s my day ... my day to fear.

The ticket descended down to me with a bit of hurry,

I soon understood there were cars going by,

They too needed to be served their rights.

I hoped they fared better than me,

I wonder who gets the protection that we all need.
