Helen Gray Launius

Helen Gray Launius, 94, Walpole, died at 4:30 a.m. Sunday, May 11, 2008, at her residence.

Mrs. Launius was a secretary for several years at the ASCS office in McLeansboro.

She was born in Broughton on April 16, 1914, a daughter of Loomis Franklin and Deen (Williams) Douglass. She married E. Carl Launius on Oct. 29, 1939, in Columbia, Mo.; he preceded her in death.

Funeral services were Wednesday at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Revs. Larry Woodrow and Gordon Rhine officiating. Burial was at Hebron Cemetery, near Walpole.

Mrs. Launius is survived by two sons, Gerald Ray Launius and wife Donna Jean of McLeansboro and Larry F. Launius and wife Elsie of Broughton; five grandchildren, Christine Bech and husband Scott of Austin, Texas, Ladonna Lasater and husband Barry of McLeansboro, Lucas Launius and wife Chantima of Broughton, Ginger Vickers and husband Quentin of Broughton and Derek Launius of Broughton; and four great-grandchildren, Jacqueline Bech, Slade and Daxton Lasater and Skylar Laine Vickers.

Helen was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Ladies Home Extension for many years. She was a charter member of the Hamilton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and was a 4-H leader for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother, George “Jack” Douglass.

Memorials will be accepted at the funeral home for the Hamilton Memorial Hospital Foundation. Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro was in charge of all arrangements.
