Michael “Mike” Keith Collins

Michael “Mike” Keith Collins, 51, Decatur, died at 4 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2008, in his home, surrounded by his family.

A funeral Mass was held Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2400 S. Franklin St., Decatur, IL 62521, with the Rev. Joseph Molloy celebrating. Burial was at the Mount Zion Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church or the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke University, c/o DUMC 3624-Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC 27710.

Mike was born Aug. 29, 1956, in Decatur, the son of William Quinten and Barbara Jean (Bauer) Collins. He married Cheryl L. Mingus on March 4, 1978, in Decatur.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

Mike worked for Connor Co. for 32 years as a delivery driver. He recently worked for C&J Excavating for two years prior to his illness. He was also the owner of a recycling business.

He was a son of the American Legion Post 105. He was an avid golfer and loved the outdoors. He was loved by all who knew him for his kind heart and passion for others.

Mike was a devoted husband and father to his family.

Surviving are his wife Cheryl Collins of 33 years; daughter Allison Collins Coit and her husband, Bob, of Mount Zion; his mother, Barbara Collins; sister Debbie Highcock and her husband, Rick, of Decatur; brothers Bill Collins and his wife, Denise, of Mount Zion, and Doug Collins and his wife, Robin, of Effingham; mother-in-law Glenda R. Mingus; and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, infant brother John and grandparents.

The family wishes to thank St. Johns Hospice, Father Joe Molloy, Sister Marianne and all of the friends and family members for their support and care.

He loved life to the fullest!
