Robert L. Mitsdarffer

Robert L. Mitsdarffer, 71, of Decatur and formerly of the McLeansboro and Piopolis area, passed away on Friday, April 18, 2008, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Decatur.

Robert was born to William F. and Katherine Engel Mitsdarffer on Feb. 10, 1937. He married Nancy Ferguson on May 4, 1974, in Joliet; she survives.

Robert received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. He taught U.S. social studies and geography, retiring in 1993 from the Decatur school system.

Mr. Mitsdarffer was a 50-year member of McLeansboro Elks Lodge 1882.

In addition to his wife, Nancy, he is survived by brothers and sisters, Clarence (Lucy) Mitsdarffer of Evansville, Ind., Francis (Audrey) Mitsdarffer of Decatur, Floann (Norman) Kirsch of McLeansboro and Marie Devoy of Enfield; his sister-in-law, Catherine (Kay) Mitsdarffer of McLeansboro; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sisters Jennie Wuebbels and Madlen Bond and his brothers Anthony, Frank, Edwin, Paul and Anthony Frank.

A memorial service will be held at later date.
