Sarah Evelyn Allen

Sarah Evelyn Allen, 88, of Evansville, Ind., and formerly of McLeansboro, died at 2:20 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2008, at Angel River Health and Rehab Center in Evansville.

She was born June 11, 1919, in Hamilton County, a daughter of Olford H. and Nora Mabel (Bowers) Reed. She married Arthur N. Allen on April 23, 1971; he preceded her in death in 1996.

Mrs. Allen is survived by two nieces, Rebecca Griepenstroh and Charlotta Fehd of Evansville, Ind., and a nephew, Daniel R. Groves of Marietta, Ga.

She was retired from Reed Holcomb and, along with her husband, trained border collies, making a Disney movie about the training of their border collies.

She attended Barker Avenue Primitive Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Groves.

Graveside services were Sunday at Old Springer Cemetery, near McLeansboro, with the Rev. Travis Housley officiating.

Memorials may be made to the church and will be accepted at Gholson Funeral Home of McLeansboro, which was in charge of arrangements.
