Ray and Marilyn Melton celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, March 19, at the Baymont Theatre Room in Metropolis.
Eighty family members and friends gathered to honor the couple’s years of love and devotion. The meal included toasts to the couple, followed by a ceremony of the renewal of wedding vows. The service was conducted by brother-in-law Larry Heisner, with all of Ray and Marilyn’s children and grandchildren serving as witnessing attendants. Lisa Melton, a niece, sang “Your Love” during the ceremony.
The couple danced their first dance to “Could I Have This Dance?” A three-tiered cake with ivory-laced frosting and fresh flowers was cut by the couple and served.
Ray was born and raised in Mounds, and Marilyn (Palmer) was born and raised in Villa Ridge, both in Pulaski County.
They were married March 30, 1958, in Corinth, Miss. They are both 1958 graduates of Mounds Township High School, where they began as high school sweethearts.
Their union has been blessed with three children, Mrs. Warren (Sonya) Miles of Freeburg and Mrs. Roger (Lynne) Heil and Jim Melton of McLeansboro.
They have nine grandchildren, Clayton, Dustin, Nicholas and Landon Miles; Brandon, Bryan and Brittney Heil; and Natalie and Lili Melton.
