McLEANSBORO — Three people arrested on drug-related charges had initial court appearances Monday.
James L. Denham, 23, and Floyd D. Hargrave, 22, both of McLeansboro, and Jerrod McGill, 19, Dahlgren, were all arrested by city police after two separate traffic stops.
Denham and Hargrave are facing charges of unlawful possession of methamphetamine, a Class 3 felony, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class A misdemeanor, and unlawful possession of cannabis, a Class C misdemeanor, Judge Barry Vaughan said in court Monday afternoon.
McGill is facing charges of unlawful possession of cannabis, a Class 4 felony, and possession with intent to deliver cannabis, a Class 3 felony, Vaughan said.
Denham and Hargrave were arrested about 3:30 a.m. Monday after the vehicle in which they were passengers ran a stop sign on Broadway, according to a police report. A juvenile was driving, the report indicated.
Police discovered meth and cannabis during a search, the report said.
McGill was arrested about 1:46 a.m. Sunday, also after running a stop sign, police reported. Police stopped McGill on South Hancock Street.
An inventory search of McGill's vehicle turned up marijuana, the police report said.
Denham and Hargrave are charged with possession of less than 5 grams of a substance containing meth. If convicted, they could face up to five years in prison.
Vaughan set bail at $20,000 for both men. A preliminary hearing in the case is set for 10:30 a.m. May 15.
McGill is charged with possession of more than 30 grams but not more than 500 grams of a substance containing cannabis. If convicted on intent to deliver cannabis, he could face up to 10 years in prison.
Vaughan set McGill's bail at $10,000 and set a preliminary hearing for 9 a.m. May 14.
The judge recused himself from McGill's case, saying he is related to the defendant's father.
Hamilton County Sheriff's Department and Illinois State Police assisted in the arrest of Denham and Hargrave.
