Construction starts on new track

The Fox statue at the end of the football field at Hamilton County Junior/Senior High School, at left, seems to be watching as workers begin to lay asphalt Monday for a new running track at the school. The Race for the Finish Committee, a volunteer group spearheading the project, needs to raise about $70,000 to move to the next phase, a rubber coating and striping for the track surface, spokesman Mike Lewis said. When completed, the 400-meter track will meet Illinois High School Association standards for interscholastic competition, Lewis said. “It will not be just a practice track,” he emphasized.
