Remember when?

April 16, 2008 03:04 pm

In 1942, Virgil “V.S.” Cook, left, operated this used-car lot south of McLeansboro, his daughter, local resident Dorothy Cox, said. The Cooks’ family home is at right in the photo. Her father used to travel north — to cities such as Chicago and Elgin — to get cars, Cox said. “I started driving when I was 14,” she said, “and I sat on his lap when he drove.” The boy at right in the photo is not identified.
If you have a photo of local interest that's at least 25 years old and you'd like to share it with the Times-Leader's readers, please drop it by the newspaper's office at 123 S. Jackson St. or e-mail it to paul.lorenz@mcleansborotimesleader.com. For information: 643-2387.
